Week 8 Reflection

As this class comes to an end, I have realized that I had formed many uneducated opinions about incorporating certain types of technology. At the beginning of this course, I never thought that I would incorporate gaming into a lesson. While I still will not incorporate an actual recreational game I will definitely search for more games that have an educational purpose. I also never thought that I would use mobile devices in my classroom. We have such a problem at our school with students using their cell phones to talk with their friends about personal issues that I would never involve them in a lesson. However, after reading a colleagues discussion posting, I became more aware of the benefits of using mobile devices to search the internet and use social networking sites.
Now that I am not a “technology snob” I hope to look for the educational value in every type of technology especially the ones that the students have the most interest in such as gaming systems and mobile devices. Now that my eyes have been opened due to the information I have learned in this class and from my colleagues I can encourage those that I work with to keep and open mind as well to emerging technologies and integrating them into their classrooms.
